My Approach

I believe every person should be able to communicate and interact with friends and loved ones. At Way With Words, my goal is to help each patient achieve the communication goals we set together in simple, yet effective ways.

I offer speech and language services for ages 2 and up. These services are provided at my location and through telehealth platforms, such as Zoom.

About Me

Welcome to Way With Words, speech & language therapy!

My name is Nicole Wilkey and I am a speech language pathologist based in Juneau, Alaska. I enjoy hiking, skiing, doing crafts, spending time with family and of course, all things related to speech and language!

Articulation

Articulation, which can be defined as "the formation of clear and distinct sounds in speech," is one of the most common areas within the scope of practice for a speech-language pathologist.

Language

Expressive and receptive language are the two main areas within language. They refer to how we express ourselves and our comprehension of language.

Cognition

Cognition refers to the cognitive processes of attention, memory, problem solving and executive functioning skills. Impairments in these areas can impact academics, daily living and vocational performance.

Fluency

Fluency refers to the way we speak, specifically the rate, smoothness and continuity of our speech. The two disorders associated with fluency are stuttering and cluttering.

More Information

It can be difficult to know what skills your child should have at certain ages. What is normal and when are certain behaviors considered a delay? On the therapy services section of this website, you will find more information regarding four common areas within speech and language, along with links to developmental norms. If you have concerns or questions about whether or not your child should be evaluated, please give me a call or send a message to help determine a course of action!

Contact
Thank you so much for being someone she looks forward to seeing every week! She is very shy (probably at least a little because she knows that she can be hard to understand) so it is extra nice knowing that she loves you so much.
